The Grain Barge only opened in July 2007 but by the end of the year had been voted Venue's "Best Bar in Bristol". In a beautiful harbourside location in Hotwells, this historic converted barge is bursting with character. Within sight of the SS Great Britain, it's the perfect place to relax and watch the world go by.
The Grain Barge has established itself as one of Bristol's friendliest, most casual eating and drinking experiences. Owned by the Bristol Beer Factory, it serves award-winning real ales, brewed less than a mile away in Ashton.
The Grain Barge is also becoming famed for its regular live music every Friday night in our downstairs hold bar, which is also available for private hire.

"The first of Milly’s Magic Lantern shows, Mermaid & Selkie was created in collaboration with illustrator, Peter Stevenson who performs with Milly & her son Orion Hart. Together they create a multilayered landscape; a simple story told through enchanting, projected visuals, fishy puppets, Milly’s marvellous storytelling and original music and songs on piano, electric guitars, banjo and concertina creating a sumptuous treat accessible to all. It explores themes of the human/nature connection, the state of the seas, love and identity, through the adventures of an eco activist mermaid, a lovesick selkie an illuminated wrasse, a psychic sea horse and other wonderful creatures. Like magic but better."
