Grain Barge

Key People

Holly Templer
Manager
Holly has been at the Grain Barge since October 2009 and is in charge of the day-to-day running of the pub. She organises the events we have here and hires all the smiley staff you see behind the bar.

After studying maths at Bristol University, Holly traveled to Italy and Australia and worked in many pubs and restaurants but never anywhere with such a fantastic view and a friendly atmosphere as here. In her spare time Holly enjoys cooking, mental arithmetic & talking to strangers in Asda.

Alicia Duffy
Assistant Manager
Alicia started at the Grain Barge this January and has quickly become part of the furniture. She takes the helm when Holly isn’t here and loves scrubbing the deck and serving our tasty grub.
At the age of 18 Alicia ran away to work in Vancouver in Canada before setting off on a big adventure down the west coast of America. She returned to study Sociology at UWE and became a regular eater/drinker at the Grain Barge. In her spare time Alicia enjoys cooking, yoga & aimlessly wondering around Bristol’s Harbourside.  She is also learning to sign.

Joe Silverman
Assistant Manager
Joe joined the Grain Barge in October 2011, and the boat started metaphorically rocking a whole lot more. A boy from Hotwells - demonstrating the Grain Barge’s commitment to local sourcing - Joe ran away to Edinburgh via New York and came back with an MA in Geography and Politics. Along the way, he has worked in real-ale free houses, several swanky cocktail dens, a couple of Michelin starred restaurants and many a festival bar. Joe likes to talk about the time he turned down a PHD at the Chelsea School of Mixology, and he can sometimes be seen throwing bottles around when Holly isn’t looking. In his spare time, he dabbles in psycho-geographic urban exploration in the style of the Situationist International. Whilst at work, he mainly plays reggae.

Cheuk Kong
Head Chef
Despite mastering the dark art of sugar craft at the tender age of 8, Cheuk dreamt of becoming a patisserie chef. Hewent on to achieve a MA at University of St Andrews, after which he spent the next 10 years doing a mixture of travel, work, marathons, work, triathlon, and then more work. Cheuk is fortunate enough to have worked in some of the best kitchens in the country before striking out on his own gaining recognition from the AA, Michelin and the Good Food guide which described his cooking as "modern British with a strong Gaelic emphasis". He is an Ironman and spends a lot of time looking at bicycle components.
